A fixed line or land line is your home phone.  Before you use your home phone you should get permission from the person who pays the bill.  When you call most numbers they will begin with 01 or 02 these can be local or national codes, if a number starts with 07 then it is usually a mobile phone number.  Other numbers start with 08 or 09, you should check the cost of these numbers before dialing them.  TV programs such a Big Brother and X Factor use these types of numbers when you vote and could be expensive.
